On 7 June 1974 / 2 August 1974, the Secretary of State, Department of Environment, compiled a list of buildings of special architectural or historic interest in the District of Tunbridge Wells. - It included:

  1. on the north side of York Road:
    • Nos. 2 - 4 York Road
    • Jabez Scholes' terrace of 1847, Nos. 6-14 York Road
    • Nos. 16 - 22 York Road
    • Nos. 40 - 42 York Road
  2. on the south side of York Road:
    • Holy Trinity Church Hall forms a group with No. 11 York Road, the vicarage - ( since the conversion into offices at the beginning of the 1980s, the group is called Trinity House )
    • No. 41 York Road, the Meeting Room

When in 1985, Habitat converted the Congregational Church - at the corner of Mount Pleasant / York Road - and its adjacent lecture hall in York Road, into a store, the two impressive listed houses, Nos. 2 - 4 York Road, were demolished to integrate Habitat's warehouse facilities.

On 12 February 2002, the Secretary of State, Department for Culture, Media and Sport, amended the list regarding the group, Nos. 6 - 14 York Road, Tunbridge Wells and added in the schedule:
The massive pavement slabs (york stone) are contemporary with the terrace and are an unusual and rare survival.
