2003 - What are the attractions of York Road, Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent ?

York Road is situated at the very heart of Tunbridge Wells. It is just a 5 minutes' walk to the mainline railway station that provides a service that can take you into central London within 50 minutes. Travel in the opposite direction and you reach Hastings on the South Coast within a similar period of time.

The Kent and Sussex Hospital is within 10 minutes walking distance. The Homeopathic Hospital is located on Church Road, a road that runs parallel to York Road.

Tesco and Safeway supermarkets are virtually around the corner and Royal Victoria Place, a substantial shopping centre, with many familiar High Street names is just a stone's throw away.

York Road is surrounded by a variety of entertainment venues. The Trinity Theatre and Arts Centre is a neighbour and provides a full programme of plays, music and arts and as of autumn 2001 will feature a cinema. In the nearby Assembly Hall, adjoined to the Town Hall, shows with international stars run frequently.

Amenities are all close by: the library, town hall, museum and art gallery. Within 3 minutes you can also reach newsagents, dentists, doctors' surgeries and specialists clinics. Many primary and secondary schools are also located nearby.

If you are worried about having a drink or two during a night on the town, then York Road is the place to live! Traditional and themed pubs, wine bars, piano bars and night clubs are all easy to walk to. If you enjoy restaurants, your choice of cuisine comes from all corners of the globe: English, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Indian, Thai; the list goes on!

The closest fitness centre and gym is L. A. Fitness, situated within Royal Victoria Place. If this sounds too energetic, then you could always walk through Calverley Park, play cricket on the Common, or take a walk in Dunorlan Park and admire its wonderful lake and bird life, where geese and ducks are abound.

York Road is purely residential, so it is a quiet road right in the centre of town. It is a one way street, so traffic flow is restricted. It is also part of a larger Conservation area embracing a significant part of the centre of town and contains many listed buildings. Many residents have "green fingers": York Road competes annually in the "Royal Tunbridge Wells in Bloom" and for the forth time it won first prize in the summer 2002.
