York Road, Tunbridge Wells, in Summer

York Road in the summer - view from Mount Pleasant towards London Road - the trees: magnolia, cherry, laburnum, mountain ashes, cherry, beech, laurel, walnuts, maples, whitebeams, broom

Residents want to keep the trees in York Road, in the Conservation Area of Tunbridge Wells - but the requested Tree Preservation Orders / TPOs [in October 2000 and again in autumn 2002] for the trees at the Telephone House site were not granted by Tunbridge Wells Borough Council / TWBC.

Furthermore [in December 2002] trees covered by Tree Preservation Orders / TPOs were felled on the premises of Trinity House - TWBC officers had failed to check the register! - The promised tree replacements within the planting season did not happen; why?

27.01.2003 - CALA Homes move in - felling of amenity trees and site set-up for the demolition of Telephone House

06.05.2003 - CALA Homes commence with the construction phase of the Telephone House Estate, York Road / Church Road, in the Town Centre of Tunbridge Wells
The development on York Road threatens to seriously damage the whole fabric of this tiny street. The new Telephone House Estate will be so overbearing, as it is THREE times government guidelines in density terms.
