If you look at pictures of Limehill Road, Dudley Road or Church Road you will realise that York Road is a completely different street.
Residents enjoy living among these green open spaces. The zero privacy in the rear (Dudley Road) is compensated with the views in the front. Green Fingers of York Road have won several times the "Tunbridge Wells in Bloom" competition.

Residents like the trees on the Telephone House site. They were once planted as a condition to a planning consent at the beginning of the 1980s.

Crest Nicholson's Chartered Town Planner, Thomas Rothermel, mocking local residents, declared at the Public Inquiry, May 2001:
"However the thin line of trees on the south site of York Road does not make much of a contribution and the contribution that it makes is alien to the densely packed line of 19c houses on the northern side of York Road. This urban feel is emphasised by the solid lines of carparking along York Road, similar to much of inner London, say Kensington, Chelsea and Battersea."

Conclusion:
The targeted group of buyers of CALA Homes' flats in York Road might be well-earning commuters, who wish to live among the less privileged (affordable housing block adjacent), who have friends that are crazy about obstructing pavements (only 42 car spaces provided for 43 flats) and who like to watch what opposite neighbours have on their dinner plates (estimated distance between houses opposite 12 metres).
