Dear Dr Bech
- Asbestos Removal - Telephone House
Thank you for your email of 1 October 2002. One of my officers visited the site yesterday and spoke to the operatives. She has also spoken to CALA Homes and to the Health & Safety Executive. You will also have seen, I am sure, the letter from the HSE to Ms Quinnell (26/9/02) on the subject of asbestos removal at this site.
CALA Homes have confirmed, in a letter received this morning, that what is being removed comprises asbestos from the redundant heating system (lagging and pipework). I attach a copy of the letter and plan.
This operation does not, in my view, constitute 'demolition' and it does not, therefore, require approval under the 'Scheme of Works'.
I understand from CALA Homes that they are likely to be re-submitting a 'Scheme of Works' in the near future. I shall of course again consult local residents and the THNA.
Yours sincerely
Nigel Eveleigh
