PRESS RELEASE
TELEPHONE HOUSE APPEAL
Commenting on the outcome of the Telephone House appeal, Archie Norman Member of Parliament for Tunbridge Wells said:
"I am extremely disappointed that the inspector supported the developers despite the magnificent work by local residents. They were up against a top gun, one of the most expensive planning QC's in the country and in terms of resources it was a very unfair contest.
I now hope that Crest Homes will do everything they possibly can to achieve a reconciliation with local residents and demonstrate that they can make a contribution to the built environment that is in character.
"The lesson for the future is that there is a need for careful examination of our draft local plan as this will provide the background against which future appeals are heard. Future developments in Tunbridge Wells need sensitive planning and proper conservation if we are to retain its character."
The development proposed is the demolition of the existing building and the erection of 43 flats together with basement level parking.
